Out of the expanse of the Canterbury Plains comes One Waka. A 7-piece Reggae Roots Cooperative bringing their take on rockers rhythms, up skanked tempos and harmonic vibes. Inspired by the authentic roots sounds of the 60s & 70s and iconic kiwi reggae & dub greats like The Black Seeds & Katchafire, One Waka have set out to bring those vibes to the live audiences of Christchurch, New Zealand for the past six years.
Taking a do-it-yourself approach, their first production South Bay Sessions, was a
collection of live takes from Kaikoura, New Zealand.
Still keeping to that grassroots approach, One Waka bring you Dub Sea Voyages.
An album which tells a story of musical & self-discovery, piecing together the band’s
experiences and the people they meet along the way.
It’s a culmination of several years of road-testing throughout the small corners & scenic gems of New Zealand’s South Island. At the core of this journey has been the enjoyment of playing music with family & friends. Bringing a healthy mix of progressive and old time roots sounds, this album is deep in rhythm and rich in vocal harmony.
Aiming to stay true to the live sound of their shows and record an album with real heart, Dub Sea Voyages is one with certified organic content, sure to nourish any roots fan’s soul.
